Call for Papers
We invite contributions to IFSO-APC OSSANZ Conference 2009, the 1st Biennial Scientific Meeting of the International Federation of the Surgery of Obesity (Asia Pacific Chapter) in conjunction with the 22nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia & New Zealand (OSSANZ)
IFSO-APC OSSANZ Conference 2009 aims to stimulate critical debate and discussion into theories, approaches, principles and applications on topics which surround the pre-eminent disease of our generation - Morbid Obesity.
Presentation types:
So as to create a dynamic and engaging program for the conference, we will be offering a range of sessions, including panel discussions, ‘hypotheticals’, key note sessions, oral and poster presentations, debate forums and video presentations. We believe that this will facilitate greater knowledge exchange and sharing, and allow more opportunities to engage in and discuss key developments in the treatment of morbid obesity.
Abstract submissions are invited for:
- Oral papers
- Posters presentations
- Video presentations
Oral Paper
Oral papers report on original and significant work in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. Oral papers will be evaluated on the basis of their significance, originality, and clarity of writing. The time allowed for each presentation will be 12 minutes including question time (10 minutes presentation plus 2 minutes question time).
Submissions should be no longer than 250 words (excluding title and other contact details).
Posters
Poster presentations must present reports of significant work in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. The display space allocated for posters will be 841mm x 1189mm (AO).
Submissions should be no longer than 250 words (excluding title and other contact details).
Video Presentations
Video presentations must demonstrate significant work in areas in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. The time allowed for each presentation will be 12 minutes including question time (10 minutes presentation plus 2 minutes question time). Accepted video presentations must be in DVD format.
Submissions should be no longer than 250 words (excluding title and other contact details).
All submissions should be made via email to ossanz@thinkbusinessevents.com.au and must comply with the prescribed format. Alternatively you may submit using the submission proforma.

Abstract submission instructions
- Abstracts can be submitted by emailing to ossanz@thinkbusinessevents.com.au
- Abstracts must be submitted in English and adhere to the maximum word limits imposed for each submission type.
- Abstracts must be submitted in Word format, in either Helvetica, Arial or Times and in a minimum of 9 point type.
- Please include the following information within your abstract. Alternatively your abstract may be submitted using the proforma attached.

- Any co-author and their affiliation/organisation
- Presenter name (if not first author)

Conclusion - The author is responsible for the accuracy of the abstract.
- The acceptance of an abstract for the IFSO-APC OSSANZ Conference 2009 does not imply provision of travel, accommodation or registration for the conference, nor any other costs associated with preparation or presentation of the abstract, or any costs associated with attendance at the conference.
- All abstracts will be reviewed by a review panel approved by the IFSO-APC OSSANZ Conference 2009 program committee. The committee’s decision is final.
- By submitting your abstract, you agree to have your abstract (if accepted) published on the IFSO-APC OSSANZ Conference 2009 website and in the conference program handbook.
Next steps:
- Email confirmation of the submitted abstract will be sent within two business days of the abstract being received.
- Details of your abstract status, including presentation time and details where appropriate, will be forwarded by 12 January 2009. Do not contact the conference organiser prior to this date for notification of acceptance or otherwise as no information will be available prior to 12 January.
- If your abstract is accepted, you will be required to confirm the presenter/s and pay the applicable registration fee/s by 30 January 2009.
