Abstract information
Notification of Acceptance of Abstract Friday 10 February 2012
Abstracts must be submitted by 31 December 2011, although early submission is encouraged.
The abstract Submission Instructions will guide you through the submission process and provide links to the online submission pages.
To submit an abstract you need to register with the abstract submission system.
Note: this is a separate process from registering as a delegate to the conference.

Abstract Categories
Abstracts to be submitted under the following categories:
- Outcomes from Bariatric Surgery
- Complications of Bariatric Surgery
- Techniques of Bariatric Surgery
- Allied Health
- Basic science relating to weight loss
Presentation Types
Submission will be accepted for the following presentation types:
Oral Papers
Oral papers report on original and significant work in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. Oral papers will be evaluated on the basis of their significance, originality, and clarity of writing. The time allowed for each presentation will be 12 minutes including question time (10 minutes presentation plus 2 minutes question time).
Submissions should be no longer than 300 words (excluding title and other contact details).
Poster presentations
Poster presentations must present reports of significant work in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. The display space allocated for posters will be 841mm x 1189mm (AO).
Submissions should be no longer than 300 words (excluding title and other contact details).
Video Presentations
Video presentations must demonstrate significant work in areas in research, development, applications or case studies in obesity surgery. The time allowed for each presentation will be 12 minutes including question time (10 minutes presentation plus 2 minutes question time). Accepted video presentations must be in DVD format.
Submissions should be no longer than 300 words (excluding title and other contact details).
Authors will be notified of acceptance / rejection on 13 January 2012.
Abstract Submission Information
General Conditions
- All abstracts submitted must be original work.
- The author is responsible for the accuracy of the abstract.
- All presenters of accepted submissions are expected to register and pay for attendance at the Conference.
- The acceptance of an abstract does not imply provision of travel, accommodation or registration for the OSSANZ Conference 2012, nor any other costs associated with preparation or presentation of the abstract, or any costs associated with attendance at the conference.
- All abstracts will be blind reviewed by members of the Conference Scientific Program Committee. The Committee’s decision is final.
- By submitting your abstract, you agree to have your abstract (if accepted) published on the OSSANZ Conference website, in the conference program handbook and on CD ROM given to delegates at the Conference.
- All abstracts must be submitted in English.
- You MUST use the following headings. Abstracts that do not follow this format will not be accepted.
- Purpose
- Method
- Results
- Conclusion
- References are not required. If you wish to include them, they must be included in the body of your text and included in the 300 word count.
- Special Symbols and Formatting are to be used sparingly. Once your submission is complete, please read your abstract in full to ensure the symbols are displayed correctly, and if not, please click on the “Insert Symbol” icon on the screen to see the list of available symbols.
- Proposed studies/presentations should be significantly advanced or completed at the time of abstract submission.
- Do not include authors names, institution or other identifiers in your abstract as all abstracts will be blind reviewed.
